Helpful Storage Pointers
Make sure you're prepared before you store. Check out the helpful pointers below.
Create a list of the items you need to store.
Check with your insurance agent regarding the proper coverage for your stored items.
Estimate the amount of storage space you’ll require. Be aware of the room your packing materials will take up and adjust your estimate based on how you plan to have your items stacked.
Remember you have the option to save space by placing smaller items inside refrigerators, freezers, furniture dressers, etc.
Ensure you have a list of all the items you’ll need to pack your materials. Think about your need for boxes, tape, packing materials for fragile items, bags, markers and drop cloths, all of which are sold in our office. You may also require the use of a dolly, a moving truck, etc.
When storing gas-powered equipment in the same unit as household items or furniture, be sure to drain the gas or any other chemicals that may cause your items to have foul odors.
Map out your storage unit and where items will be placed. This allows you to locate them more quickly later.
If you’re storing large items that require disassembly, be sure to keep all pieces in one location inside your unit.
Confirm that the materials you’re planning to store are robust enough to withstand seasonal temperature and humidity fluctuations.
Consider keeping a cart or dolly in your storage unit for future convenience.
In case you need to disassemble or reassemble an item on-site, keep the necessary tools for the job inside your storage unit.
