How do I figure out what size of unit I need?

Do you have climate-controlled units?
We do not currently offer climate-controlled units. Therefore, it's important to keep in mind the extreme temperature conditions our area experiences.

What kind of security measures does Sixth Street Self Storage have in place?
From our facility design to redundant security measures, Sixth Street Self Storage ensures your items are protected with:
  • All-steel construction
  • Concrete floors
  • In-door guardian lock systems (not available at our drive-in location)
  • Fences and controlled electronic gate entry (gated entry not available at our Johnson Lake location)
  • Nightly security patrol
  • Video monitoring - coming soon!

Do you offer insurance coverage on my stored items?
Sixth Street Self Storage does not provide insurance coverage on stored items. Insurance of any stored items is the sole responsibility of the renter. Check with your insurance agent on the availability of coverage for stored items. Please note that we do have a contracted service through a separate company called StorSmart Insurance.

Are electrical outlets available inside the units?
No. Outlets are only available on the exterior walls of our facility.

How are the units locked?
Our current facilities provide a lock and one key per storage unit. You do have the option to put your own personal lock on the unit as well.

How do I enter the facility?
Our Kearney storage location has gates that feature electronic access. You’ll be assigned a unique code that will allow you to enter the facility.

What are the gate access hours?
Gate access hours are the hours you're allowed to have access to your items. Sixth Street Self Storage’s current gate hours are as follows:

Office hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday
Access hours: 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, 365 days a year

Are there vehicle storage options?
Yes. Sixth Street Self Storage offers storage of cars, motorcycles, Jet Skis, RVs (outside, uncovered) and boats (inside or outside). Availability does vary by location. For more information, please call us at 308-236-6633.

Do you sell packing materials?
Yes. Our office sells locks, boxes, tape, bubble wrap and other packing materials during normal business hours (8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday).

Do you allow other people to access my storage unit with my permission?
Yes. You can decide who can access your storage unit. However, our policy is to never release unit information of any kind to anyone who is not listed as an authorized person on the account. That type of information includes the unit number, gate code, account balance, contact information, payment/delinquent status, etc.

What kind of identification do you require for me to rent a storage unit?
We will need the following information:
  • Two contact phone numbers
  • Date of birth
  • Credit card information
  • Driver's license number
  • Photo I.D. (This is only required when setting up an account in our office.)
  • Email address (If you don’t have an email address, you can still rent a unit by visiting our office.)

How do I pay?
You can make your payment at our office, pay online, or set up automatic billing. We accept the following forms of payment:
  • Cash
  • Check  - local check (requires a 5-business-day processing period) or out-of-town check (requires a 7-business-day processing period)
  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • Discover

What happens if I miss a payment?
If you miss the payment date by over 5 days, your storage unit will be over-locked (the lock is disabled and the unit is tagged) until you pay the balance in full. Your gate access code will also be disabled until you make the payment. Payments that are late after the 5th of the month are also subject to a $10.00 late fee.

Is a lease required to rent a unit?
Yes, a lease will be required. However, we do offer month-to-month terms with our minimum rental term of one full month.

What happens when I want to discontinue my storage unit rental?
In order to get your initial deposit back, you just need to give us a 30-day written notice, thoroughly clean out your storage unit, and return your key to the office. It’s as easy as that. We will inspect the unit for cleanliness and damage. Units that are not cleaned out after belongings are removed may be subject to a minimum sweeping or trash collection fee of $15.00. Any rent and/or deposit refunds you are due will be mailed out within 10 business days.
